The Lighthouse Keeper
Objective: read and use the word “lighthouse,” retell what Nora does each evening, and write two sentences about her job.
High on a jagged cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean stood a tall, white tower with red stripes. This was the Point Rock Lighthouse. While most people in the village below were sitting down for dinner, Nora was just starting her most important job of the day.
Nora was the lighthouse keeper. Every evening, she climbed the spiral stairs to light the lamp. The stairs were made of heavy iron and twisted round and round like a giant seashell. By the time she reached the top, Nora's legs usually felt like jelly — but she loved the view from the glass room at the peak.
Then the child answers:
- 1. Where does Nora work, and what is her job?
- 2. Why does the lighthouse lamp keep boats safe?
- 3. Write two sentences about a job you would like to have.
